Treat Consent States as Product Truth

How to keep analytics trustworthy when users can opt in, opt out, and change their minds.

A metric that mixes consented and non-consented traffic is not a metric—it is a rumor. Product and growth leads need denominators that match the consent window the event was allowed to fire in.

Write consent state into the event contract the same way you write timestamps. Analysts should never have to guess whether a chart includes declined users.

When consent UX changes, treat it like a schema change: document the cutover date and re-baseline comparisons.
